...It's hard to find a polish that will break down well enough when used by hand and actually be effective enough to remove spiderwebbing and fine scratches.
Spiderwebbing can be GREATLY reduced (especially if you have a new finish) by using only straight back-and-forth strokes when washing and waxing your car. The microscratches are still there when you use straight strokes, but they are less apparent and don't appear as spiderwebbing. If your finish is already spiderwebbed, then you have no choice but to use a random-orbit polisher with a fine-cut polish.
I hate spiders.
