Just don't hit the durned cone!

« on: August 09, 2008, 08:27:14 PM »

In case you haven't received notice from Hallett, the Midwest Z Fest folks are having a High-Speed-Touring event on Friday, Aug. 29. We've got Z-cars, Miatas, Corvettes, etc., and even a law-enforcement patrol car lined up to run--should be a great day of track time. Those of you entered in the COMMA event Saturday and Sunday can use this day for practice and to set up your cars.

You can register instantly with PayPal at:  http://www.midwestzfest.com/non-mzftrack.html

Come on out!

I noticed that in Connie's email.  What's the scoop?  Part of some training?  Personal use of government property?

If it's a normal street-tired cruiser, a contest to see who could lap it the quickest would be fun.  Smiley

Yep...it has the usual “Cop tires” (Blues Brothers quote). It's strictly an opportunity for law enforcement to make a statement, and maybe recruit some talented drivers who would like to carry a badge. Unfortunately, Buck has to be on the track all by his lonesome due to orders from the top. But it should be an interesting exhibition, considering that Buck is a trainer in high-speed pursuit and "intervention."

If he could be out there with the other cars, I would be willing to bet money out of my own pocket that no one could lap him in a 20-minute heat--in anything like the cars we'll have at the HST. I took a ride with a Houston cop in a Ford Galaxy 500 pursuit car way back in the day (don't snicker, at least we had 104-octane fuel) that convinced me I could never run away from the police, never mind factoring in the Motorola. Not even the cop cars had seat belts in 1962 and I darned near ripped the armrest and dashboard out trying to stay in the seat while he vectored that huge car through some "impossible" closed course problems. I made sure I stayed near the speed limit on the trip home from that ride--I thought my Austin Healey 3000 was invincible prior to that demonstration...hey, it had a rollbar. Grin

Cool!  I wondered if it could be a familiar face.

If Buck's driving, I have no interest in taking you up on your bet.

Interesting.  Will he get to bring out a V8 Charger?  I hope so because a Crown Vic will be far less interesting.

Hey...my money is still on Buck even if he shows up in a Lincoln Town Car (undercover car Grin). Sign up to drive and come on out to see.

I'm told a couple of Ariel Atom drivers are wanting to sign up for our HST on August 29. I want to see one of these "live." Must be great to drive a nearly street-legal F1 or Champ car  Shocked

Ken, that's not the version you want.

You want this one.

Bobby's name is on the waiting list for Lacey's graduation present.  Wink

Ariel announced the latest version of the Atom - the Ariel Atom 500, powered by a small V8 engine. With over 500bhp in a 500kilo package the Atom 500 will boast one of the highest power to weight ratios ever for a production car, ever. At over 1000bhp per tonne the Atom 500 will be the ultimate statement in performance and is destined to be made in a limited edition.

We are going to be more practical and get an Elise!

On the Atom note, these things make you look like you are standing still at Hallet, running 1:23's, and 1:21's with a skilled driver and wings.

Made the blue cars 1:29 feel like I left the emergency brake on.
