Just don't hit the durned cone!

Rally Master Keith Wheeler had advised me that the London-to-Paris Rallye (Arkansas) is definitely ON for OCTOBER 24, 2009.

This is a spectacular Autumn foliage tour as well as a fun rally that covers nearly 200 miles of silky roads through the Ozarks. It winds from London, AR, to Paris, AR. It includes some small-town traffic sections, but is mostly beautiful highway with little traffic. It is an SCCA sanctioned TSD event, so you'll need a $25 entry fee and a navigator to read the route instructions--you can't safely drive and read the instructions yourself. Anyone over the age of 12 (SCCA requirement) who can read will do nicely as a navigator. The route instructions in the past have been straight forward with no attempts to "trip you up." There have been several youngsters on L2P teams in the past.

Parts of this route are as challenging as any public road in North America. Past events have been fun driving even at legal speeds.

The trip over from Tulsa is about three hours seat time (I-40 all the way), so you can leave about 6:00 a.m. and be there in time for sign-up and drivers' meeting. You can be back home by 10:00 p.m. even if you stay for the awards dinner after the rally. There are also plenty of places to stay the night along I-40, and a couple of "bed-and-breakfast" places in London and in Paris if you want to return home on Sunday. The organizers have not updated their Website home page with the correct date as yet, but the rest of the information on the site remains valid.

Keith and his helpers are working hard to keep the L2P going, so the more support we can give them, the better the chances of keeping this great autosports date alive. Besides, it's great fun to tell people you can't make it to their boring deck party because you're driving in the London-to-Paris Rallye that weekend. Grin

I've always wanted to do this, but that's a busy weekend.

The Tri-State series, which ARSCCA is an active host and participant, scheduled their Blytheville, AR, event then. It's now a SCCA National Tour event, which is drawing even more people. It's a shame ARSCCA's own calendar isn't exclusive.

KCSCCA's Halloweenie autocross and countless non-automotive Halloween parties are also going on. OMR was going to have its own Fall rally then, but pushed back the date a little.

Maybe another year?

Yeh...and OU is playing Kansas on that day. That's cutting into Oklahoma participation in the rally. But, like you, I would much rather be a participant than a spectator. Good luck with your full calendar of autocross Grin  I'll be driving from London to Paris. Cool

As for another year...the L2P is usually on the last Saturday of October every year. It had to be moved up a week this year due to a schedule conflict with the organizers. Put it on your calendar for next year, and start looking for a navigator.
