So that corner was really tight and I was trying to late apex. I was just wondering how to enter the corner because of how you came into it. I was trying to stay close to the inside on the easy right hander before which loaded the left side down and made it hard to get turn in. I tried to counter by giving the wheel a quick throw to the left to straighten the wheels while braking before I made the turn. It didn't occur to me until now that I could have tried to to wide on the shallow curve to get more of a straight run at the 180. Im wondering what everyone's take on how it should have been handled is.
Thanks

Proper set up of the previous pivot cone determined this corner. Go out wide before the pivot cone, and move the car back over to the left side carrying as much speed as possible. Transition across to be tight  on the inner cone (section that begins the 180), most of the braking towards middle-outside of the lane, turn in (trail brake / use brake to settling the car), back side the inner apex, run up to the slalom. The sooner you got pointed in the right direction, the sooner you were on the throttle.

Most people carried too much speed through that pivot cone, or used the first cone as their exit point and they were pointed in the wrong direction. If you set that corner up properly, you're entrance into the 180 could be significantly deeper and under control.

With your setup, I'd say you should always be trying to minimize distance first, and then carry speed 2nd. That course on Sunday was an excellent teaching tool I thought. Every bit of it.

Basically position the car so the rear wheel is the tire that almost hits the cone. I still have Bobby's voice in my head telling me "backside....backside...." going through a slalom. Works like a charm.

It means turning before the cone.
Anyone else have a better description?

on my best lap I was 27mph going into that and 16mph at the apex so I was obviously flubbing it up.  Having the turn in of an aircraft carrier doesn't help either.

next time I walk a track I'm going to plug in some false traps so I can do sector analysis.

Prolly not the "right" way, but what worked for me thru there was going in a bit wide, a quick tap on the brakes, and turn. The front would react pretty good, and the rear would *sorta* follow, allowing me to get back on the throttle to control how far out the rear went. With low HP, momentum is everything.
My car seems to turn in well, but the rear is a bit loose. Perhaps a 2-3 PSI bump would tame it a bit. Or a couple less gallons of fuel.....

My driving style is basicly make mistakes as quickly as I can....... Sometimes I do manage to limit the mistakes, though.

looking at my other data it looks like I was getting on the throttle too soon, realizing that I was not fully turned in and pulling back throttle, then on again.  It was happening at "my" apex which was not necessarily the right one, just what is delineated by the GPS data.

Oh yeah! That's the attitude I like to see.

We're in this for FUN right? And to learn something about our cars and how we drive. So learning from our mistakes is GREAT. "Winning" is secondary IMHO. Grin
