so, i have a couple opportunities to do some trading around with some other wheels i have, and i was curious on some thoughts you guys might have.

1) 949racing 6UL, nickel, 15x7.5.

2) SSR Type C, grey w/ machine lip, 15x7.

i think the SSRs are slightly lighter, but i really like the look of the 6UL, other than that would make my car look exactly like Todds, lol.

this will be mainly for putting some better tires on for auto-x.

any ideas? i think in the swapping, i will have less $$ invested in the 949s.

The 6UL are cheaper and wider, and the weight difference isn't huge.

If you already have these wheels, as your post seems to infer, then it just boils down to what fits/looks best to you.
Remember, Todd had minor fitment issues when he dropped to 15" wheels. Fitment trumps looks as well as weight. Even the lightest, coolest looking wheels are not worth much, if you can't make them clear well.

yea, i dont actually have either of them yet... i have a set of wheels that im trying to sell, and some guys are wanting to do some trading. i have had offers for both of these, just trying to figure out the choices.

i agree on the fitment issue... if they wont clear on the MSM, i can use them on my GTI, the brakes wont be an issue there. i just dont have any experience with the 949racing wheels, other than the website, and seeing them on a few cars. i also read the 7.5 wheel has been discontinued, in favor of the 8s.

Either set of wheels local, or are they both far enough away to make a test fit difficult?

Todd had fitment issues with the 6ULs came from the 15x9 wheels that he bought.  The 15x7.5 should be plug'n'play.

BTW, if you decide against the 6ULs will you throw the contact info my way?  I'd like another set for the CRX or the Wagon.

yea, he is a distance away, but i am planning on doing the swap for the 6ULs. plus, with the BBSs im doing the swap with, im getting a decent chunk of $$ to boot. he is getting his dismounted this weekend, so they should be underway soon.

i did read some on the 949Racing site about fitment... they say the 7.5s should clear all factory brakes, plus most of the aftermarket kits. it does go on to mention issues on the wider wheels. i kinda wish they were 8s, but ah well.

now, to use the $$ towards some decent rubber, haha. might wait till closer to the season.

ill let you know if something doesnt pan out, tho.

I've been away for a few days, and forgot about this thread:
There really is only 1 option for miata's unless you get a good deal on used rims. You can't beat the 6UL's for the price.
15 x 7's are disco'd and I'm pretty sure the 7.5's are as well. You might be able to find them used.
He is doing x8's and x9's now, and then focusing on other car fitments (S2000s).

You CANNOT run the x9's without aftermarket suspension to run some decent negative camber. I maxed my factory at around 1.5, and the fender cut grooves in my 225s. I now run 2.3ish with no rub. 275's fit in the rear, no rub. Statically they fit in the front. No dynamic fitment test. I also rolled/flatten the lip on all 4 corners, er Chris did it. I didn't have the balls.

Emilio's fitment guide is good. Follow it. he didn't make it up or guess, it's all been tested. All of his rims are designed to clear even the largest BBKs. From what I've read from the miata challenge guys the BBKs are more car porn that function for a miata. Spend money the pads, and you'll never need anything bigger. Sean would probably back me on this (maybe Jim too, not sure how deep into Miata's he got/is).

I had honestly forgotten about my fitment issues with my Enkei's when we were talking about swapping. I ran +15 spacers to deal with the caliper rub. SSR's fit (sean has them) and they are awesome looking, awesomely light, and awesomely expensive when compared to the 6UL.

The 6UL is like the C5 Z06 comparision when it comes to  rims for the miata. Sure they are other options out there, but bang for the buck, you can't beat a 6UL or C5 Z06.

I would definitely wait until next season is closer to by rubber. I have fitment pictures of 225 and 275 Hoosiers, and Chris has or can get 225 NT01's on the 7" rim.

thanks Todd, i appreciate the info!

i think you're right, his site said the 7.5s are discontinued as well.  im thinking the 7.5s with the 225 rubber should be just about right for what i need.

i intend to likely get some springs before next season as well, but not much drop, or i likely wont be able to crawl my big ass outta the car, haha.

I wasn't sure which wheels/sizes caused Todd a fitment issue, just remembered he went thru a bit of a hassle. I don't know if this issue was MSM specific, or if it affects all Miata's. I honestly thought the Miata's brakes were good enough that the MSM didn't use anything more.
I'm glad you got the info needed, and could make an informed choice.
I'm not that familiar with 949racing wheels, but sounds like a smallish company, that really cares about making things work.

true.. i think i read that the MSM has the same brakes as the 01+ "Sport" brakes, so it shouldnt be too unusual. hopefully this week i can get the deal finished, and start saving for rubber, yay.
