I have a group in OKC that is building a car for LeMons in June.  If it is still together and functioning, I'm sure it will be available for the Chump Car race.

I don't know of LeMons in OK.  ChumpCar will be the closest thing we get.

Ah well me and my dad looked at the entry stuff for that. They got some weird rules and the real cost of the car is alot more than 500. So looks like I won't be doing that.

i thought they were pretty strict and requested you show the invoice paid for the car.  Or can you buy one for "$1" and then do $499 of upgrades to it?

I've read a few articles on the Lemons'. The spec sheets have a general breakdown of costs. I have a car to donate if some of you all have time to "get it ready". 1st gen rx-7 w/ 12a rotary. Only condition- I get parts that are reusable. STOCK CONDITION NOW.

The chump car one just has to be recorded that you spent 500 dollars in buying the car. They you have to put in a roll cage and have good brakes and tires. They also narrow applications to themed cars because its a charity race. If you make infractions they tear parts of your car apart and make you put it back together. Mess up big and they buy your car for 1500 and start the auction at 1750. Total expense with entry would be well over 2.5K

^IF they get over 50 entries. The last ChumpCar race within the last few weeks had 27 entrants. So that shouldn't be a worry.

If you have no safety gear and buy the cheapest stuff, that's a $500 right there, + everything you stated.

We worked out the numbers for 6 drivers all contributing = would work out to $1400-2000 each, again because the group of my buddies, none of us has the required safety gear.

The safety gear does not count towards the $500 limit. If you happen to be made of money, and drop $10K on the greatest safety gear, it doesn't get added to the value of the car. Of course, with that kind of money available, you probably wouldn't waste time building a $500 racecar..........

Oh, and even if they claim the car and pay you the $1500, you keep the harness, seat, fire supression and other safety gear, whether you pony up the extra $250 to place the opening bid on the car, or just walk away from it.

Yes, it's quite pricey for someone without all the required gear to get involved. But, those who already have the gear, likely have several junkers laying around just for parts, and find it an amusing way to have fun without dropping a lot of coin, especially since part of the money does go to charity.

I have a 1998 Chrysler Sebring 2.5Litre V6 if anybody is interested. Would be perfect for this event.

Willing to sell to a race team OR have a race team run the car with me.

Oh yeah, I understand that. 2x for brakes/wheels/tires/brake lines, etc as well.

Just wanted to put an actual figure out there for him if he hadn't yet. We did all the math on it last week.

I'm the one that basically brought our group to a halt with the idea. I decided I was sick of not being able to use the garage in our new house, so once the Bronzit E30 is parted, the silver E30 can actually go inside.
