Ok, for all you folks following this adventure, Paul made it to Modesto just a bit late because of fog. Flights all went well. He was picked up at the airport, made the transaction and is out on the road smashing bugs! Spoke with him awhile ago and he was closing in on Bakersfield(on the lookout for Buck Owens or Dwight Yoakum on the way through)
There is a weather contingency in place with Pauls safety paramount! Just watched the Fox25 weather, what an excellent forcast/preview of the storm!!!!!
The vehicle is 4X4 so he can pull of the highway and pull into the motel if the situation gets crummy.
I will keep folks posted as things progress.
And Jim how the heck did you know?

It is a desert tan 1.25 ton chevy pickup with the words "U.S. Marines" painted on the side. V8 diesel with a Banks turbo, auto trans, 3.73 lockers at each end, sitting on 35x12.50-16.5 BFG's.
The turbo and 3.73 gears aren't military spec. Turbo is aftermarket, and the military spec 4.56 gears were loaded in the back. When I turned it over to Wendell, the odometer read 015004.x (I forget what the 10th was). Actual mileage is higher, since it read 014697.x when I picked it up, and I drove it 1700 miles. Speedo is still calibrated for the 4.56 final drive.
Oh, it got somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 MPG, even in the mountains. Derned respectable for a 4x4 truck that's 25 years old.
I'm not a fan of chevy trucks, but I called dibs before I made it 100 miles down the road.

Glad you made it back safely and Wendell got his goofy little Marine truck
.
Can we take that into Muskogee and demand our airfield back?

From what I experienced, we can take it anywhere. Well, not under anything lower than ~7 ft high, if it's very solid. I was looking down into the cabs of anything smaller than a semi. Semi's I had to look up, slightly........
